New Poll Shows 60% in Utah Support Civil Unions, But Only 27% Support Gay Marriage |

The results of a new poll show that while most Utah voters are firmly against the legalization of same-sex marriage, not all are opposed to civil unions.
Considered one of the country's reddest states with a 70% Mormon population, it's no surprise that Utah is firmly against the legalization of same-sex marriage. According to a survey by Public Policy Polling, only 27% of the state's voters are in favor of marriage equality.
But when civil unions are added to the mix, the percentage of those who support some form of recognition for same-sex couples jumps to 60%, with a breakdown of 23% in favor of marriage and 37% in favor of civil unions.
