Australia's GetUp Launches New Ad in Response to Homophobic Katter Commercial
Bob Katter's gay half brother has spoken about how hard it is to be related to the conservative party leader and vocal opponent of gay marriage. Carl Katter on Wednesday launched a television commercial with activist group GetUp in Brisbane to promote marriage equality and hit back at a political advertisement made by Katter's Australian Party.

The party says the ad was meant to highlight Liberal National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman's personal support for gay marriage, despite the LNP's official line opposing it. But it's been condemned as homophobic by advocates for the gay and lesbian community and the leaders of both major parties.

In GetUp's response ad, Carl Katter speaks in front of the original commercial, condemning it for vilifying gays and lesbians, particularly youth. Carl Katter says he has had to deal with his brother's conservative views his entire life and did not want the rest of Queensland to suffer with him.
