North Carolina House Speaker Thinks Amendment One Likely to Pass, Be Reversed Later |

N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis came under fire Tuesday for predicting a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage will pass, only to be reversed a generation later.
Speaking Monday to a student group at N.C. State, the Cornelius Republican predicted that Amendment One will pass with about 54 percent of the vote. But he also expects its repeal within 20 years because young people are more supportive of marriage rights for same-sex couples.
The flap came as debate intensifies over the May 8 referendum, and reflects the high stakes and deep passions on both sides.
