Gay San Diego
We last visited San Diego at the end of 2006. It's almost always sunny in San Diego, or so we're told, and that certainly was true this time - we had great weather for our visit.

We came down to the city for my Aunt Wendy's wedding. She was married in the Rose Garden of Balboa Park on a beautiful September afternoon.

It was an amazing family gathering, with folks flying in from all over the country. It was also the last time I saw my Grandmother, Hazel Coatsworth, who passed away on the day after Thanksgiving after an amazing life of 95 years.

The next morning, we enjoyed an hour of Bubble Soccer - which is just what it sounds like. You climb into this clear, inflated plastic bubble that covers you from your head to your knees, and then you play a one-minute game of soccer, trying to knock down the other team's cones (and the other team). It's just one minute, but these things weigh 25 pounds!

My cousins, who are uniformly taller than I am (and I'm almost 6 feet - seriously, it's like a basketball team when we get together, with me as the water boy), took turns knocking me on my ass. It was fun.

Then we spent the next few days bumming around town, with our dear friend Kathie Cox as our tour guide.

San Diego is very walkable - believe me, we walked a lot of it!

We'll cover several places in the Greater San Diego area, including the downtown core, the gay Hillcrest area, North Park, Little Italy, Coronado Island, Old Town San Diego, and Solana Beach.
