Sacramento Like a Local - Purple Roofs Gets Interviewed
The co-founder of LGBTI travel directory Purple Roofs on his love of his hometown, the Californian capital (no, it's not LA!).

I've lived here since… 2003. My husband Mark and I were looking for a place where we could afford a bigger home and office. We started our LGBTI travel directory Purple Roofs in 1998, and we quickly outgrew our two-bedroom condo! Sacramento was affordable, and offered a more relaxed lifestyle.

I've stayed because... Mark and I found a lot to love about the area. The Sierra Foothills look like something out of Tuscany. There's not too much traffic. Downtown Sac has a thriving LGBT community, and over the last few years, a new farm-to-fork ethos has emerged. Sacramento is quickly coming one of the foodie capitals of the US.

Here in Sacramento, we always look forward to… spring. That's when most of the farmers' markets open, and the weather warms up to the mid 70s to low 80s. The rains make the hillsides green, and the various foodie events begin. The best is the Farm-to-Fork Celebration, which culminates with a meal on the Tower Bridge [below] – the whole bridge is shut down for a gourmet dinner, with the California State Capitol Museum in the background.
