Chinese Gay Couples Marrying Lesbian Couples to Please Parents

Lesbians and gays are faking marriages among each others to satisfy their parents. According to reports, there is an increasing trend of fake marriages between lesbian couples and gay partners in order to escape family and social pressures.

For example, Zhang Nana and her partner Shenlan (their real names changed) are in a relationship. In 2006, she married 31-year-old university lecturer surnamed Wang - who was already with his partner Lian. But three years later, the couple divorced – Zhang came out to her parents.

Although China removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses in 2001, people like Zhang’s parents continue to see it as an abnormity that can be corrected.
