Gay Travel: Tremendous Toronto, Ontario
The visit to Canada is over and my travelling companion and I have managed to get through a huge variety of outfits nodding to the past and to a bright future; suffice to say, a good time has been had by the pair of us. Alright, Prince William I ain't but I'm not long back from The True North Strong and Free with a friend. And we made the decision to go first.

It has surprised me that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn't take the opportunity to visit Toronto, Ontario, which is Canada's largest city by far - about one third of Canadians call the greater metropolitan area 'home'. It was, however, our base for exploring the cities and parks of eastern Canada. As our dear Royals have neglected to provide our press with the opportunity to extol Toronto's virtues, allow me to fill the void.

Our guidebook says that in Toronto gay is the new straight. And there certainly does seem to be something in the water. By chance, rather than design, my friend and I booked ourselves into a B&B that's run by a gay Canadian called Jeremy. We found Jare's Place modern, fresh and suitably quiet for that post-flight snooze. Happily convenient for the sights of Downtown Toronto (accessible on streetcars 504 and 505) and the University of Toronto campus and Gay Village (Church-Wellesley) (take the subway at Broadview), it also happens to be in another gay-friendly neighborhood - Greektown. Pretty gardens and tree-lined roads abound throughout the community, with only the black squirrels darting about to remind you that you're not in Britain anymore.
