Prop 8 Lawsuit Not the Only Game in Town
Everyone knows about the gay-marriage case in California, Perry v. Brown, and the legal dream team fighting in favor of gay marriage: former Bush v. Gore foes (and frequent On The Case players) David Boies of Boies, Schiller & Flexner and Ted Olson of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.

On Thursday California's Supreme Court cleared the way for that case to go forward, so as this case makes its way toward what many believe is a date at the U.S. Supreme Court, we'll be seeing more of the verbal stylings of Boies and Olson, as well as those of Charles Cooper of Cooper and Kirk, who is representing proponents of the California law banning gay marriage.

But the fight is obviously not limited to California or state law; there are at least eight active federal cases involving challenges to the proposed U.S. Defense of Marriage Act. The lawyers in those cases may not have the sky-high profiles of Boies and Olson, but as it turn out, those two aren't the only big names in the gay-marriage game.
