GENERAL: This week Police Chief Cathy Lanier of D.C. and law enforcement officials in Maryland - both of which have laws banning discrimination against transgender people - said they could not identify a single case in which a transgender person has been charged with assaulting or harassing women in a public bathroom. full story

OPINION: Protesting transphobic laws with selfies of burly trans men in women's bathrooms packs a punch, but doing so could make it even harder for gender-nonconforming folks to pee in peace. full story

GREENLAND: Greenland's same-sex marriage law went into effect today (April 1st). The marriage bill, which is an adoption of Denmark's matrimonial laws, was passed unanimously by both the Greenlandic Parliament and Danish Parliament. full story

NETHERLANDS: The Netherlands became the first country in the world to approve same sex weddings, when the first gay couples tied the knot on April 1, 2001. full story

UGANDA: Uganda's beleaguered LGBT community continues to raise its voice -- and visibility -- with the new edition of the country's first magazine created by and for queer Ugandans. full story

UK: Transport for London has announced that the Jubilee line will be renamed the Pride line - in honour of LGBT equality. full story

UK, SCOTLAND: Scottish National Party leader Nicola Sturgeon has set out her LGBT rights priorities ahead of May's Holyrood elections - promising a radical overhaul of the gender recognition system, but ducking a direct pledge to introduce statutory sex and relationship education. full story

USA: A Lambda Legal review of all 359 opinions authored or co-authored by Merrick Garland, President Obama's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, has concluded the judge does not have enough of a record to suggest how he would approach any LGBT-related issues. full story

USA: A federal judge has ruled that Mississippi's ban on same-sex couples adopting children is unconstitutional - making gay adoption legal in all 50 states. full story

USA, CALIFORNIA: When veteran reporter Karen Ocamb, 66, got the call asking her to come into the Frontiers Magazine's office while she was on vacation, she knew something was wrong. Then she was fired for being too old. full story

USA, CALIFORNIA: The district attorney of San Francisco announced Thursday that his staff discovered dozens of racist and antigay texts sent between five city cops -- just one year after 14 different police officers were ensnared in another texting scandal. full story



USA, CONNECTICUT: Governor Dan Malloy signed an executive order that bans state-funded travel to North Carolina due to the recently adopted HB2 legislation, which removes protections for the rights of the LGBT community. full story

USA, FLORIDA: U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle has issued a final ruling that Florida's ban on marriage for same-sex couples is unconstitutional. full story

USA, MARYLAND: Johns Hopkins Medicine has started doing transplants between HIV-positive donors and recipients. full story

USA, MISSISSIPPI: A Federal court has overturned the same-sex adoption ban. full story

USA, MISSISSIPPI: A spokesman says Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant will review a bill that would let government workers and private businesspeople cite religious beliefs to deny services to gay or lesbian couples. full story

USA, NORTH CAROLINA: One transgender man in Charlotte, North Carolina has concocted the perfect way to teach the public what his life as the result of the state's newly passed anti-LGBTQ bill. full story

USA, NORTH CAROLINA: Braeburn Pharmaceuticals said it is "reevaluating our options based on the recent, unjust legislation" for a $20 million factory in the state. full story

USA, NORTH CAROLINA: A trio of LGBT advocates have met with North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory amid growing discontent with the newly enacted anti-LGBT law in the state, the Human Rights Campaign announced Thursday.
The advocates, including Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin, met with McCrory in his office at the state capitol in Raleigh, N.C., to deliver a letter signed by more than 100 major businesses calling for repeal of House Bill 2. full story

USA, NORTH CAROLINA: When LGBTIQA rights advocates delivered a letter signed by over a hundred business leader to North Carolina's Governor to protest the state's anti-LGBTIQA law, his office tried to make the trans women wait outside. full story

USA, NORTH CAROLINA: In the aftermath of New York instituting a ban on state-sponsored travel to North Carolina over the state's newly enacted anti-LGBT law, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has said the Empire State should institute a ban on itself because of its lack of a transgender non-discrimination law. full story

USA, NORTH CAROLINA: Equality California and the National Center for Lesbian Rights have asked the state of California to ban state-funded travel by California state employees to North Carolina and any other state that passes new laws that discriminate against LGBT people or revoke anti-discrimination protections already in place. full story
